ECP to finalise voters’ lists today

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will formally inform the government and the Supreme Court about the finalisation of voter lists and corrections in the interim voter lists which will be completed by today (Thursday). A spokesman for the ECP said the commission would finalise the voter lists and interim voter lists in which 83.2 million voters were registered by May 31 for the next general elections, adding that more voters will be registered until the announcement of general elections’ schedule. The spokesman said more corrections will also be made in the voter lists and challenging of fake voters will also be allowed until the announcement of general elections. Depreciation or surge in the voters’ strength could be expected as the ECP will continue to purge the fake voters and also register new voters, the spokesman said. The chief the election commissioner had directed the officials concerned to work in double shifts to prepare and finalise the voter lists by May 31. The spokesman said it was made possible with the help of hard work of the ECP officials and lists would be finalized by the given date and also the government and the Supreme Court will be formally informed about the development.
