Another petition was submitted in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, seeking disqualification of convicted Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani from his office. A citizen, Muhammad Akthar Naqvi, submitted the petition in the apex court against Gilani, and stated that the prime minister was not implementing the verdict of the apex court. The petitioner said that the Supreme Court convicted the PM and according to the law and constitution of the country, a convicted person could not hold any government office. He requested the court to declare the premier disqualified from holding the office, vacate the PM’s House. The petitioner said the court should stop the prime minister from availing privileges, including official protocol, adding that the court should order the interior secretary and the government to put Gilani’s name on Exit Control List (ECL). The petitioner made the federation, cabinet division, prime minister, speaker of the National Assembly and chief election commissioner as respondents.
PM calls on president, discusses political situation, federal budget: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Presidency on Tuesday. Current political situation, law and order situation and the forthcoming budget session of parliament was discussed in the meeting. The president also briefed the prime minister about his visit to Chicago to attend NATO Summit. Sources said the president asked Gilani to provide maximum relief to the common man in the coming budget and find a permanent solution to the electricity crisis. He said suggestions of the allied parties should also be given due consideration in the next year’s budget. Zardari also told the prime minister that the PPP firmly stood behind him in difficult times.
