Against the ruling?

I wonder why the PML-N is seeking the help of the Supreme Court to remove Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, whom the PML(N) leadership considered their friend. Why does the PML(N) not remove the PM through a vote of no-confidence in the National Assembly which is the right way of disqualifying the PM in a parliamentary democracy. When do the majority of political parties in the National Assembly have ‘confidence’ in the PM? Why is the PML(N) not accepting the verdict of the majority members of the National Assembly? Why should the Supreme Court be involved in politics?

The PML(N), now posing as a champion of independent judiciary, should not forget their physical attack on the Supreme Court when Nawaz Sharif being the Prime Minister of Pakistan was facing contempt of court. Why has the PML(N) Chief changed his attitude towards the judiciary?

The constitution of a country outlines the basic structure of the state institutions, their responsibilities and authority. The parliament representing the will of people is supreme. The PML(N)’s approach to prove itself as the main opposition party in the National Assembly and government in waiting, instead of seeking help from the judiciary and military to remove the federal government through confrontation, should prepare a shadow budget, a shadow cabinet to evaluate the federal government’s performance, presenting solutions to the problems faced by the people. It should also present the facts about the PML(N)’s Punjab government’s performance, which being the largest province in the country is being challenged by PTI in terms of popularity.

Instead of improving their performance as an opposition as well as a ruling party, PML(N) has not set an exemplary record to defend itself in the coming elections. I would like to advise the Sharif brothers to concentrate their energy and time in preparing the PML(N) manifesto and what changes the party will bring in putting the country onto the road to progress. What are their plans for education, health, eradication of corruption, favouritism, nepotism and increasing their chances of forming the next government?

By submitting the petition against the Speaker of the National Assembly and asking the Supreme Court to interpret the legal power of the Speaker is likely to serve no purpose and will have the fate of the memo case. I do not understand why politicians are unable to solve the political issues within the set parameters, particularly the PML(N) which is affecting the neutrality and independence of the judiciary by involving it in political issues, thus rendering no service to democracy.
