On the second day of violent protest, the students of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) locked the university and forcibly got it vacated from teaching and non-teaching staff against the expulsion of 11 students.
The students vowed that they would not allow the administration to resume educational activities till the restoration of their expelled fellows.
On the other hand, vice chancellor of the university seemed least bothered to restore educational activities, which are badly disturbing the educational atmosphere for the last 10 days.
The QAU students have been protesting against the expulsion of their 11 colleague, but the ‘rude’ behavior of administration provided a ground to students to turn more violent. On Tuesday, the protesting students also thrashed some non-teaching staff, however, no serious case was reported.
On Tuesday, the students forcibly got the university vacated and locked the gates of almost all classrooms and dean offices by butting ‘Elfi in the door-locks.’ They also jammed university’s transport system forcing employees and students to go either on foot or taxi to reach bus stop for catching vans to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, dozens of students of Federal Urdu University staged a protest demonstration in front of varsity to express solidarity with the sacked students. They blocked the road and intercepted all kind of vans and buses owing to which travelers underwent huge agony and anguish for an hour.
The students threatened to continue their protest and hunger strike till the restoration of their fellows. On the other hand, the vice chancellor office wrote a letter to district administration seeking its help to restore peace in the university. Earlier this month, some 11 students of QAU were expelled by the disciplinary committee after they staged a protest and badly disrupted an international conference on the campus on April 27.
Following this incident, QAU administration also got an FIR registered against the 11 students. Later on the expelled students were asked to approach the syndicate – a high decision making body – ,however the students said that VC Dr Masoom Yasinzai was playing delaying tactic in convening the syndicate meeting.
It is relevant to note here that classes scheduled to end on June 6 and any prolonged dispute would badly affect the academic calendar and study of students who get admission for their better future.
A spokesman of QAU said that administration had already informed the students that their case would be heard in syndicate meeting slated to be held on June 2, however, he said some students wanted to get their demands fulfilled by force. He said around 90 percent students wanted to study but a bulk of students with the help of outsiders were badly disturbing the atmosphere of the varsity.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by VC office stated that a meeting of the deans, chairpersons of the departments, directors of schools / institutes and senior faculty members of the university, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masoom Yasinzai was held on Tuesday.
In the meeting, the QAU faculty strongly condemned the continuing acts of indiscipline and harassment of the faculty by some of the students. The faculty members were unanimous that teaching and research activities could not be continued in such circumstances.
It said the faculty also asked the vice chancellor to request the district administration to come forward and play its role in order to restore academic and research activities on the campus.

  1. 'FORCE' is not an appropriate word used in this article, the students who are protesting against the administration are on right. They need justice, they were expelled on the grounds of lies that they disturbed the atmosphere of the uni, all they want is there rights which are not given to them, they must immediately be restored or else it will continue.

  2. koi haal nahi quaidian's ka 🙁 Quaidian's na hu gaya DON hu gaya…whtever the issue is educational activities should not be disturbed in any circumstances

    • APKA HAL HAI BUS,, DOR SY BATEN KARNA ASAN HAI,,, THERE IS NO VOILENCE HERE ITS A PEACEFUL PROTEST, WE ARE PROUD TO BE QUAIDIAN ( QUAIDIAN ONCE QUADIAN FOREVER) AP BACHI HAIN U NEVER KNOW SITUATION IS LEYE AESY COMMENT KEYE HAIN.

  3. Administration should adopt a 'zero-tolerance' policy against violent protests by students-cum-criminals. QAU administration should release those 11 students/criminals photos in newspapers and recommend to ban their employment in public or private institutions/organisations if those 11 students do not request for pardon to university administration and fellow-students. These 11 students are not only enemy of their mother institute but also responsible for affecting the studies of 95% fellow-students who came to get education in the institute.
Vice-Chancellor must also take notice of the legitimate demands of the students with sympathy as these students are assets of the nation.
Conspirators should not detract the students to make harm to the QAU's top ranking, fame and reputation because these tiny interruptions would not make much difference.

    • very true.
      – STOP violence, live in peace, progress, discipline, faith, prosperity, healthy with liberty and dignity.
      – START hunger strike in front of VC office if food is bad – also offer some food to VC.
      – RESPECT your teachers and institution because it is a source of your respect and recognition in society.
      – TOLERATE and quest to change the system peacefully not with violence.
      – BE SURE you are fighting for a better quality of food NOT to impress girls 🙂

PPP stands for PEACE-PROSPERITY-PROGRESS not Pakistan Peoples Party.

  4. QAU administration has always been stubborn and obstinate in terms of student rights and they left no stone unturned to make life difficult for the latter during their two year degree period. Stern measures need to be undertaken to curb the highheadedness of the the QAU administration and give student their due rights. I remember that while all the employees of QAU ranging from Class 4 to Professors have their representative bodies who bargain for their rights mostly by adopting extreme tactics, students are not allowed to raise their voice and no platform is provided to them. This is the time the students be provided with their needs and all their valid demands must be fulfilled.

  5. VIOLENT PROTEST ,, TO INFORM YOU VC SAID ITS VIOLENT BUT ACTUALLY ITS NOT VIOLENT ITS PEACEFUL PROTEST AGAINST VC'S DOGMATIC DESICIONS.

  6. Its a shame that students are getting expelled for asking for basic necessities like water supply and internet facilities.

  7. The students should set the PM house and President house on fire , as They are responsible for energy crises. How QAU admin can provide them which is not available country wide.

  8. Miss Asifa ap ne quaid-i-azam univ happily ni chori ho gi balky ap ko university ne bahir nikala ho ga due to PROBE,
