ILO receives 900 entries for photo contest on child labour

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has received more than 900 entries for its national level photo competition on the fight against child labour in Pakistan.
The objective of the contest is to encourage journalists, students and general public to enter the photographs depicting various aspects of child labour in the competition, media coordinator of ILO Pakistan, Zaheer Arif, told APP on Monday.
He said the national level photo competition 2012 was launched in January in collaboration with the European Union under a project ‘Combating Abusive Child Labour II.’
He said panel of judges, comprising mass communications and photograph experts, ILO technical persons, and technical persons of photography, has been formed which would select the best photos in categories including professional, students and general public.
The best 20 photographs of each category will be displayed in an exhibition on the occasion of World Day against Child Labour in June and the best selected persons will be honoured with cash prizes.
The first prize winner of each category would be given Rs 50,000 while second and third winners of the competition would be given Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively. Certificates of recognition for 20 winners in each category would also be awarded, he said and added photographs would also be selected for website, ILO publications, annual journalist diaries, calendars etc.
Zaheer Arif said the basic objective of the photo competition is to promote public participation in action for the elimination of child labour in Pakistan, raise public awareness and understanding on the issue of child labour and to advocate and campaign on behalf of child labourers towards ending child labour in Pakistan.
Another aim is to mobilize the country to achieve the goal of ending the worst forms of child labour by 2016.
