Deficiency of proper parking facilities in most of the markets and shopping centers of the Federal Capital is creating hindrance for the commuters and the situation is worsening day by day with increasing number of vehicles.
The oldest and busiest business centers including Aabpara, Melody Market and Blue Area are worst hit which remain packed with vehicles throughout the day till late at night.
Muhammad Amir, an owner of a garments shop, told APP that in Blue Area he had parked his car at least 400 yards away because he could not find a parking space near the store.
He said that sometimes it took 5 to 10 minutes to find parking. “Where should we park our vehicle,” asked one woman looking for parking.
A traffic police official in the area said that people needed to be educated in parking their cars. He said that if people parked their cars properly, less space would be used leaving more parking area for others.
When contacted, a CDA official said that the authority was aware of the situation and was taking steps to redress the problem.
The CDA should solve the traffic and parking problems in different places of the capital city and to find out appropriate ways for expansion and up-gradation of the roads and roundabout so that the task is executed with minimum cost.
He said the CDA also initiated the projects for developing pedestrian underpasses to facilitate general public; however, these facilities should be state of the art having commercial area on both sides to earn revenue for the authority.
He said that provision of the protected U-turns, fish bellies and other such facilities is the need of hour in wake of increase of traffic load in the city.
On the directions of the task force, the CDA has initiated the work on these projects and has sought expression of interest for construction of the pedestrian underpasses connecting G-6 and F-6 and the G-7 & F-7.
The work for expansion of different roads and avenues in addition to provision of fish bellies has already commenced to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and avoid the accidents.
