The ministerial committee of the federal cabinet constituted to help improve law and order situation in Karachi, met the members of the civil society and Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STP) leaders, separately, here on Sunday.
The committee comprising federal ministers Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Syed Khurshid Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and Mola Bux Chandio was formed in the wake of the attack at a rally in Karachi recently.
Addressing a press conference along with other members of the committee at the residence of social activist Zulfiqar Halepoto, Fahim said, “We will meet all the stakeholders to get their views, analysis and advice as to how peace can be restored in Sindh”.
About the recent incidents of violence in the province, he said the situation calls for political solution and could not be handled only administratively. Fahim said the law and order situation is not affecting any particular political party or a group, but it is affecting all the people of the province. “It is for this reason we have decided to take all the stakeholders on board to find a lasting solution to establish peace in the land,” he added.
However, Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar said, “We will only meet the leaders who represent the people of the villages, of the cities. We will not meet anyone involved in clandestine activities,”
Khursheed Shah said they would also take up the issue of disappearances of nationalist workers and would address the matter. Earlier, the members of the civil society in their recommendations to the committee, called for arresting the culprits of Karachi rally attack.
They also demanded transparent investigation into the killings of nationalist leaders Bashir Khan Qureshi and Muzaffar Bhutto. They also called for the restoration of five districts of Karachi and the old boundaries of Hyderabad district, besides creating job opportunities to youth.
