Lady Gaga has called off her Indonesian concert in Jakarta, citing security concerns after protests by hardliner religious groups. Indonesian Police had denied issuing a permit for the US pop star after Islamic groups objected to her show, claiming that it was too vulgar. The groups had threatened to try to stop Lady Gaga from getting off the plane. More than 50,000 tickets were sold for the 3 June event. Promoters have said they would offer refunds.Fans were devastated, despite the promoter’s offer of full refunds. Some accused police – who refused to issue a permit over concerns about security – of buckling to the will of a small group of thugs. The planned ‘Born This Way Ball’ concert has been on-again-off-again from the start. But on Sunday, it was final, said MinolaSebayang, a lawyer for Big Daddy, the promoter of the June 3 show.”It’s unfortunate,” he said. “But with threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga’s side is calling it off. This is not only about Lady Gaga’s security, but extends to those who will be watching her. Lady Gaga’s management has considered the situation minute to minute, and with threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga’s side is calling off the concert,” a leading news channel has quoted MinolaSebayang.
