EOBI disburses Rs 831m amongst pensioners

During the month of April, the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) disbursed a total amount of Rs 831 million among its beneficiaries.
This was stated by the EOBI South Director General (Operations), Javed Iqbal, in a meeting at EOBI Head Office Karachi.
During the same month, the EOBI registered 557 new employers, 43,016 employees and approved 4,691 new pension claims, including 2,329 old age, 230 invalidity, 1237 survivors and 895 old age grant claims, he said.
`There are now 84,830 employers and 4,888,683 insured persons have been registered since the inception of EOB Scheme and the number of beneficiaries has reached 434,634’.
Javed Iqbal said the EOBI collected Rs 825 million as EOB contribution from the registered employers and employees during the month of April, adding that the EOBI has started disbursement of pension through Easy Paisa, a branchless banking service in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, EOBI Chairman, Zafar Iqbal Gondal, said EOBI is a welfare organisation and doing its level best to bring about positive change in the lives of the working community of industrial commercial organisations.
EOBI provides Old Age Pension, survivors pension and invalidity pension to the registered workers as well as benefits of WWF are also available to the employees/employers registered with EOBI thus holding it registration card.
He further said that families of registered workers are entitled to receive death grant from WWF on the demise of their bread earner. He added that self-employed person could also register themselves with EOBI by paying their own contribution of Rupees 420 per month and get these benefits.
Chairman EOBI also advised its pensioners to register themselves at their nearest Telenor Easy Paisa franchise. Once registered, the beneficiaries can withdraw pension from the designated 16000 Easy Paisa outlets across Pakistan.
