Dead body of one of the soldiers who were buried under an avalanche in the Gyari Sector last month has been recovered on the 50th day of the operation.
A total of 139 people—soldiers and civilian—were buried under the ice on April 7, 2012 and since then an operation is under way to rescue the victims.
The body has been shifted to Goma Hospital, however, the officials cannot identify it because it has decomposed badly.
The rescuers found the body near the check post where the soldiers were present at the time of the tragedy and there are hopes that more bodies will be found nearby.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say that another soldier’s body has also been found.
A team of around 450 local and foreign rescuers have been working round the clock at Gyari sector, though there are little chances of any survivors after nearly two months of the incident.
