FACES Pakistan, a non-profit and non-government organisation, introduces Solar Caps to utilise alternative energy sources during its Green Energy Campaign outside Cinnabon Café at Hussain Chowk on Saturday.
The Solar Caps have a fan fitted on top of them, which works when exposed to sunlight. In front of the cap, there is a solar cell, which can transfer solar energy directly into electric power, which can turn on the fan. Its speed can change automatically depending on the availability of sunlight.
During harsh summers and the scorching heat, these caps will help prevent heat strokes and sun burns for people working outdoors, says Ali Imran Raja, project in-charge of the campaign. Also, these caps symbolise the significance of solar energy which can result in environment-friendly and peaceful development, he says.
FACES Pakistan President Javaid William says that their organisation has taken the initiative of launching a Green Energy Campaign, keeping in view the current energy crisis in Pakistan. “The aim of the campaign is to create awareness and build a mass movement of people to demand strong action from the authorities to develop renewable energy sources and other conservation measures in Pakistan and reduce our reliance on furnace oil,” he says.
“This would not only help tackle climate change, protect the environment and reduce our vulnerability to energy shocks, but would also help lift us out of the current recession by creating tens of thousands of jobs and would help develop new “green-tech” industries,” Mr Javaid William says.
FACES Pakistan intends to carry on the Green Energy campaign which also includes a tree plantation activity on monthly basis in different areas. “Our aim through the campaign is to plant a number of trees in different areas including schools, colleges and universities, so that we can highlight the importance of trees amongst the youth,” says Elaine Alam, National Coordinator Programmes at FACES Pakistan.
