In a stark reminder of the excruciating sufferings the Kashmiri people have gone through, the US Human Rights Report for 2011 has documented a number of incidents violating basic rights of people in the Indian occupied Kashmir including the discovery of mass graves. The report, released Thursday, particularly chronicles violations committed by government forces in the disputed Kashmir region, occupied by Indian forces for several decades, as well as several other troubled spots experiencing insurgencies. The Indian government and its agents’ committed arbitrary or unlawful killings, including extrajudicial killings of suspected criminals and insurgents, especially in areas of conflict, such as Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeastern States, and the Naxalite belt, the report said.
