Punjab govt to re-launch ‘Green Tractor Scheme’

The Punjab government has decided to re-launch the ‘Green Tractor Scheme’ to boost the agricultural production in the province.
Sources said the scheme will be launched again in the next fiscal year in which 20,000 tractors would be given to the farmers on subsidised rates. The government will be allocated Rs 2 billion for the scheme in the next budget while 25 percent of subsidies will be provided on every tractor, sources added.
“The government has included the scheme in the non-development projects for the next fiscal year. In the previous ‘Green Tractor’ schemes, the government had provided a 50 percent subsidy, but this time the subsidy will be reduced to 25 percent, the sources said. The tractors will be provided through a lucky draw.
It may be mentioned here that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also introduced this scheme during his previous government and the initiative proved successful as a large number of farmers had benefited from the scheme that helped the province produce surplus agricultural products.
