A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Quetta and adjoining areas late on Thursday night. According to the Met Office, the earthquake jolted Quetta, Mastung, Kuchlak, Pisihin, Harnai, Kolpur, Mach, and several other areas at 1:26am. The tremors forced people to leave homes and come outdoors in the open. Earlier the same night, a moderate earthquake had hit parts of Balochistan including Khuzdar, Kalat, Sorab, Sibi, Mastung and other areas at 10pm. The centre of the earthquake is said to be some 90 km in North of Khuzdar. Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Manager Authority (PDMA) has been put on high alert. However, due to an acute lack of resources and unavailability of trained staff, the people have not pinned any hope on the PDMA to deal with any possible disaster.
