Sindh’s education budget to be doubled: minister

The budget of education in the province would be doubled from Rs7 billion to Rs15.5 billion. This was announced by the Sindh Minister for Education, . He was laying the foundation stone of the Education Complex here on Thursday. The building would be constructed at a cost of about Rs 188 million and would be completed by June 2015 and will house the Department’s offices including those of Sindh Textbook Board, Sindh Education Foundation. The Minister said that the purpose was to bring under one roof the offices and activities of the education Department. He further pointed out that there is a proposal that in the next fiscal year the budget of education be enhanced from Rs7 billion to Rs 15.5 billion. Pir Mazhar said that this enhancement was aimed at spreading the education in every nook and corner of the province. He also informed that 22 schools of the Lyari Expressway project which were shut owing to non-availability of funds have been taken over by the Education Department and would be made operational and academic activities would start there in June. Sindh Education Secretary, Muhammad Siddiq Memon, said that every effort is being taken for the promotion of education. Chairman of Karachi Board of Intermediate Education, Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai, Abdul Salam Khawaja, Najamuddin Abro, Qazi Asad Abid and Niaz Leghari also spoke on the occasion.
