PPP leader among 5 killed in violence

At least five persons including a local PPP leader were killed and several others wounded as target killing and violence continued in the city on Thursday. More than 10 persons were arrested in targeted actions.
Unknown gunmen shot dead PPP’s leader Mustafa Ameen in Mowatach Goath area of Baldia Town and managed to flee. Angry protesters blocked Hub River Road and burnt tyres against the killing. The body was shifted to a nearby hospital for autopsy.
In a separate incident, two armed motorcyclists chased a Hyderabad bound passenger bus and stopped the vehicle near Teenhatti. The accused pulled down two youngsters from the bus and opened fire at them killing one of them on the spot while critically injuring other and fled the scene. The deceased hailed from Baloch Parra area of Karachi.
Two persons were killed in firing of unknown armed men in Ilyas Goth area of Liaquatabad. Police said that the dual murder is the outcome of rivalry between two criminal gangs of the area.
In Jamshed Quarters and Super Market areas, one person was killed and another injured in separate firing incidents. Two persons were injured in a firing incident in C-1 area of Liaquatabad.
The neighbours foiled a bid to kidnap a billionaire head of a private bank. Armed men tried to kidnap Hussain Loyai, head of a private bank, when he reached parking of his house located in DA scheme after offering fajar prayers.
The kidnappers tortured Hussain Loyai upon resistance but fled in his vehicle when the neighbours hearing the noise called in police. Meanwhile, Rangers continued targeted action, search operation and raids in different areas of the city including C-1, Liaquatabad during which more than 10 suspects were arrested who were being investigated.
Four more dead in
Liaquatabad gunfire: At least four people were gunned down in the city area of Liaquatabad, police said.
Meantime, the Rangers contingent arrested a target-killer from an area of Jamshed Quarters in an operation conducted overnight. The city area of Liaquatabad rang with gunshots in wee hours of Thursday when four people were injured in firing by the unidentified miscreants. One of the injured died on the spot.
Meantime, another man succumbed to injuries while he was being transported to hospital. The remaining two also expired at hospital before long. The incident spawned tension across the area. Heavy contingent of police was summoned to prevent any untoward incident from happening in the area. The investigations into the incident have been started.

Palijo demands arrests in 48 hrs

President of Awami Tehreek Ayaz Latif Palijo has warned of blocking national highways of Sindh in case the accused involved in attack on ‘Mohabat-e-Sindh’ Rally are not arrested within 48 hours. He was talking to media after meeting leader of Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Dr Qadir Magsi at Hyderabad. Both the leaders condemned the incident of firing on the rally. Dr Qadir Magsi said he has come to meet Ayaz Latif Palijo for condolence and solidarity. He demanded that the case should be registered against the rulers and declared the incident as violence and terrorism.

Several nabbed during raids

Rangers personnel arrested several suspects, including a target killer, during raids in Usmania Colony and C-1 Liaquatabad area here in the city. According to a private TV channel, the target killer was involved in over 50 attacks and he was arrested from Usmania Colony during a raid. In another raid in C-1 area of Liaquatabad, the Rangers detained several persons. The Rangers conducted raid on an intelligence cue about presence of suspects in the area. The accused opened fire at Rangers personnel in which a man Sajid Baloch was injured, who was transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, sources said.
