Oral polio vaccine case: LHC seeks report by July 2

The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a report by July 2 from the Punjab government and Health department on the methods adopted to preserve the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) for administration in the far flung areas.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the order on a petition filed by Muhammad Suleman, a vaccinator in the City District Government Lahore, seeking directions for a judicial enquiry after holding that the OPV had not been provided properly or according to international standards, to children. Earlier, a health department counsel appeared before the court and submitted a report, informing about the means adopted for the safe administration of the polio vaccine.
However, the court directed that a report be submitted about the methods adopted to preserve the polio vaccine for administration in the far flung areas.
The petitioner contended that the standard of the OPV at the union council level was up to according to international standards.
LHC orders Punjab govt to refund money to varsity: The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the Punjab government on Thursday to refund the money used from the City District Government’s Student Fund for the laptop distribution function before June 30. Justice Omar Atta Bandial was heading the single-member bench of the LHC hearing petition against the misuse of funds to promote the Punjab government’s laptop scheme.
The counsel of the City District Government told the court that the total expenditure for the ceremony was Rs 16.2 million which will soon be refunded.
