A new scandal about the promotion of a young officer from grade 18 to grade 21 has surfaced, causing unease in the bureaucracy. The promotion in just two years was done due to political pressure. Sources said the Establishment Division had appointed Federal Minister for Information and Telecom Raja Pervez Ashraf’s son-in-law Azeemul Haq Minhas to grade 21 as senior joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Minhas was income tax group officer of 28th common and was working in grade 19 in the Income Tax Department in 2010. He moved to the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) on deputation and was appointed in grade 20 equivalent to deputy director general.
