After the killings of at least 11 people in a rally against Muhajir Sooba (province), Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah are at loggerheads for lodging of FIRs against Awami Tehreek leader Ayaz Latif Palijo.
The chief minister has left for Islamabad to personally register a protest with President Asif Zardari against the interior minister, insiders told Pakistan Today on Thursday. At least 12 people were killed and more than two dozens injured when masked armed men attacked their rally organised by the Awami Tehreek. The rally was taken out to condemn the demands for a separate province in Sindh. After the incident, the chief minister had called up an emergency meeting of law enforcement officials at the Chief Minister’s House the other day where it was pointed out that the interior minister was directly interfering into the matters of the Sindh government without informing the chief executive and others authorities concerned, sources added. They said Malik had instructed the law enforcement agencies particularly the inspector-general of police (IGP) to register an FIR against AT leader Ayaz Latif Palijo. However, the chief minister was of the view that those responsible could be taken to task after the joint interrogation team completed its probe.
