The Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned a petition filed against the Punjab government for ignoring the students of private institutions in the laptop scheme.
The court directed the petitioner’s counsel to file further documents specifically about the criteria set for granting the laptops.
The single bench comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the petition filed by Ghulam Abass, a student of Beaconhouse University.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the petitioner was a student of a private university and eligible to be a beneficiary of the laptop scheme initiated under the Youth Development Programme by the Punjab government.
He submitted that the students of the public sector institutions were given laptops under the said scheme but private sector institutions were completely ignored.
The counsel termed the act discriminatory and against the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution.
He pleaded the court to issue directions for granting laptops to students of public sector institutions as discriminatory.
He also requested the issuance of directions for the Punjab government to accommodate all eligible students studying in public or private institutions.
