The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC), in collaboration with public sector universities, arranged a group painting exhibition, titled, “The role of Artists in Society” here on Wednesday.
As many as 21 students from Fatima Jinnah University, International Islamic University, NCA and NUML participated in the exhibition. Renowned artist of international fame Zarar Hyder Babari along with Resident Director Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition.
More than 80 art pieces on calligraphy, photography, landscape, drawing, miniature art and collage work, were put on display. The medium of the work was oil, water paint and pencil. The aim of the event was to highlight social issues prevailing in the society.
The artists had also pointed out current issues faced by our society. The culture of different regions was also depicted besides social issues. The remarkable thing of the exhibition was the participation of two disabled female artists, Tehmina and Ammara, who attracted the attention of the participants with their creative work.
After the inaugural ceremony, Zarar Hyder Babari applauded the organisers and said that maturity will come in the artwork of young talent with the passage of time. Resident Director Waqar Ahmed said that the council had fulfilled its aim by providing a platform to the young talent of the region. He added that an opportunity to display the creative work is the basic right of every artist. The artist through his sensitivity brings forth natural beauty as well as social issues of the society in front of the people. The efforts of Misbah Chaman, Sameer Khalid, Neelam Yousaf, Memoona Ahmed, Jahanzeb Khan, Rana Saleh and Zeeshan Safeen are extraordinary for this exhibition, he added. The exhibition will continue till May 26. A large number of art lovers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad participated in the exhibition.
