The city of Karachi is once again bleeding. This city that was once called the city of lights and was the industrial and commercial hub of the country has long been plagued by many fissures. It has been held hostage by vested interests and it has been sacrificed at the altar of partisan interests.
But why has this problem not been solved? It is because no one has the courage to call a spade a spade and no government has had the political will to conduct operations against those elements wreaking havoc in the city. Thanks to the fact that all the parties that are involved in criminal activities are part of the ruling coalition, political expediency has ensured that no meaningful action was taken in the incumbent’s tenure.
One would have thought that the mantra of reconciliation would have brought some peace to Karachi but it seems that the city is destined to remain in the shadow of the reaper for some time to come.
