An inspiring documentary on the life and mission of former prime minister and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto received the coveted George Foster Peabody Awards at a glittering ceremony here on Tuesday. “Bhutto”, the 111-minute documentary about the two-time Pakistani prime minister who was assassinated in Rawalpindi while campaigning in 2007, gives a strong sense of her endearing personality and courage, mixed with single- mindedness devotion to promote democracy and human rights.

  1. I wonder how much time is devoted in this movie to her corruption, deceitfullness and back door deals. I also wonder if they talk about how she took over the chairmanship of ppp from her mother. Does the movie adress her aquisition of hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes and kickbacks? I doubt it. Come to think of it, what exactly did she accomplish? Any mega projects, dams, roads, schools………anything?

    • Punjabi boy…your heros are Asad Durrani, Aslam Beg and Hamid Gul…! make a film on them.

  2. In Punjabi, it is said that If one does not have a good face at least he should talk sense. Shaheed BB was a beautiful political face of Pakistan; on whose tragic assassination even her arch enemy Nawaz Shareef had publicly wept.
Let's avoid finding fault in our some of the finest leadership. .

  3. I am still waiting for the list of accomplishments that only she could have done 🙂 Lets call a spade a spade. The woman had criminal corruption charges pending against her all over the world. She stood on the parliament floor and said that she did not own Surray Palace. Once the matter susided, she claimed that property to be hers. The list of lies, deciet and corruption is too long. That would have made a more interesting film 🙂

  4. AT LEAST SHE WAS MUCH BETTER THAN IMRAN KHAN WHO IS NOT EVEN FAITHFUL TO HIS BIOLOGICAL( invalid) DAUGHTER TARYAN, AND HEARING NEWS OF HER EXPECTED BIRTH PARTED AWAY FROM SITA WHITE WHO IS NOW IN HEAVENS. The man who was not faithful to even his daughter, how cud he be faithful to his country.

  5. What does that has to do with the BB list of accomplishments? Are we in the race to see what politician is the lesser of the evils or are we looking for the best leader? Imran Khan may be the worst person ever to walk the face of this earth but how does that explain the inadequaties of BB? Or all the charges against her?

  6. Was BB so bad that we have to compare her to the worst people we can find just so we can say that she was better than them? How about comparing her to the best that we can find and see how she stacks up against them?

  7. Benazir convinced United States and the West to view Pakistan's nuclear program in context of India's. She saved pakistan from being included in list of terrorists states in 1994 which expected during nawaz rule. She brought missile technology form North Korea. Is it not enough for her democratic credentials that she braved 5 years of jail terms in Sukker during Zia regime. She set up 12 electricity generation projects which saved Pakistan from load-shedding between 1996 and 2005 which had continued from 1980 to 1995. She had agreement with PowerAsia for 5000MW TharCoal power, though that was cancelled by NawazGovt, which did not set up even a single power plant during his 2 stints in power. She was never allowed to complete her term of govt, so what to talk about her other accomplishments.

  8. BB was a visionary leader this nation perhaps never deserved. Any other nation would have hugely benefited from her intellect and skills. The world used to listen when she used to speak as she was an excellent communicator. No other Pakistani politician can dare to touch and reach the global audience the way BB used to do.

    • Don't over do it Bubba!
As a Pashtun, I hold Benazir's father, Z.A. Bhutto, responsible for the break-up of Pakistan. Bhuttos care only for the government of the Bhuttos, by the Bhuttos, and for the Bhuttos. The are a power hungry selfish lot, and to these waderas, Pakistan is just another Jagir. Also, don't credit projects initiated by Zia (even though he was military dictator) to Benazir. She was like her father. All words, no action. Or an empty drum, who made much noise. Like her father, she left a plague on Pakistan called Asif Zardari, as her "toofah" for Pakistanis. She did nothing for Sindh, ask a Sindhi like Sain Ayaz Latif Palijo and you'll get your answer. Haris of Sindh are still suffering from the devastation from the 2011 floods, even though, the President, the House speaker, and CM of Sindh are all Sindhis. Some people are their own biggest enemies, in the case of Bhutto family, it is all but true.

  9. My friends who praise her have either not read our history objectively or are allowing their emotions to take the better of their reasoning. She indeed was educated and wise but all the wisdom was inherited from ZA Bhutto who was no angel.Visionary, yes but not for future of Pakistan but her own and of her immediate family.Visionaries are NOT imported by third countries. They live among their people and die with them.Is New york and is Dubai located in Pakistan? After Qauid e Azam the genuine visionary that we have had was Ayub Khan.We must search the liberaries and read about that time.Believe me today we are living on what was done by him in 60s.It was her father who destroyed all including the country.

  10. she was really a greatest leader and a daughter of visionary politician … her contributions for promoting democracy and human rights are never forgetable in history …
