CM reviews security, at least what’s left of it

Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, chaired a high level meeting regarding law and order situation of the province at CM House here on Wednesday. The meeting was attended among others by Chief Secretary Sindh, Raja Muhammad Abbas, Director General Rangers Sindh, Maj. General Rizwan Akhtar, I.G. Police Sindh, Syed Mushtaq Shah, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Syed Sohail Akbar Shah, Additional I.G. Police Karachi, Akhtar Gorchani, Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh, Additional I.G. Special Branch, Additional I.G. (CID), Commander ISI, Commander MI, Joint D.G.(IB), D.I.Gs of Police East, West, South and D.Cs East, West, South, Malir and Central and Principal Secretary to C.M. Agha Jan Akhtar.
The Chief Minister strongly condemned the incidents of firing on rally and the resultant loss of lives and injuries. He said that it is the overall responsibility of the government to protect the lives and property of the people.
Qaim Ali Shah stressed that no leniency in this regard would be tolerated. He directed that strict measures be adopted to curb the activities of criminals and anti-state elements.
Chief Minister said that we all have to remain vigilant, careful and be prompt to handle the situation in proper manner. Qaim Ali Shah directed to maintain the law and order and crimes be controlled and made it clear that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
He said that provincial government intends to regulate the rallies and processions for which necessary law will be enacted. Chief Minister Sindh further said that political parties had signed code of conduct which is to be followed and implemented while the Home department will enforce the Section 144 Cr.P.C. Qaim Ali Shah directed that the police and Rangers should be vigilant to curb criminals and anti-state elements while the patrolling be extended in various localities so as to control the situation.
He said that parties and groups should have to announced programme of rallies/processions in advance and they should inform the administration well in time and seek the permission, while the places for public meetings must be notified in the province, so that prompt security plan is evolved well in advance.
DG Rangers Sindh Maj. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar informed the meeting that extensive raids have been launched and prompt action has been initiated against criminals after firing on yesterday’s rally.
He said that many criminals have been apprehended which include three notorious criminals viz- Sohail Sadiq, Kashif Powela and Shanawaz. He said that due to joint and prompt action of Rangers and Police, the city was saved from big causalities and damages.
IG Police Sindh briefed the meeting about measures and strategy adopted and for smooth holding for rally while the Additional IG Police Karachi gave report about incident and damages took place during yesterday’s rally.
He said that 200 personnels were deployed at important and vulnerable points. He added that besides 12 casualties, seven cars, 12 motorcycles and some shops were set ablaze. Commissioner Karachi, D.I.G Police South, D.C. South, Commander ISI Commander MI, Additional I.G. Special Branch, Additional I.G. CID and others also highlighted the situation and gave their views.
