The province has taken practical steps for the setting up of the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC). This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Education, Pir Mazhar ul Haq. He was chairing a meeting here on Monday to give final shape to the draft regarding the SHEC. It was pointed out that after the 18th constitutional amendment, education comes under the provinces. Pir Mazhar said that after the finalization of the draft, a bill would soon be moved in the Sindh Assembly for the necessary approval to pave the way for the establishment of the SHEC. He was of the view that the establishment of the SHEC would be very helpful to the public and private sector universities functioning in the province. The Minister further remarked that the SHEC would also contribute towards the enhancement in the academic standards. The meeting was attended among others by the Secretary Education Sindh, Siddiq Memon, Aga Khan University’s Dr. Muhammad Memon, Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, A.Q. Mughal Ghulam Sarwar, Dilawar Ali Manghi, Aftab Inayat and Javed Ahmed Shaikh.
