A petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court seeking directions for the government to reserve funds for the Thar Coal project in the next budget.
The petition was filed by the petitioner’s counsel Chaudhry Masood Gujjar submitted that Pakistan was facing an energy crisis which had adversely affected the industrial and economic activities. He said the Thar Coal Project was initiated to deal with the energy crisis and that the project team had successfully experimented with the gasification from the coal wells.
He said the government was not providing funds for the Thar coal project, adding that the project might end, if the funds were not provided. He pleaded the court to issue directions for reserving funds of Rs 5 billion for the project in the next budget.
LHC moved against PM’s authority: A petition was moved in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday to declare all the decisions taken by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani as unconstitutional.
The counsel of the petitioner submitted in the LHC that the Supreme Court had convicted Prime Minister Gilani in the contempt of court case after which he could not hold the office of the premier. The petitioner stated that despite the conviction, PM Gilani continued to issue orders for the postings and transfers of government officers.
The petitioner also appealed that the official activities by the prime minister should also be banned.
