Learning problems lead to extreme steps: education expert

Foundation for Rehabilitation and Education of Slow Children (FRESH) General Secretary Ashba Kamran has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a sixth grade student in Faisalabad, saying that persistent learning difficulties often result in abnormal behaviour on the part of students. She pointed out that learning difficulties because of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Dyslexia are common in students worldwide. “The advanced countries are dealing with these problems through remedial education and other suitable techniques and tools. However, in Pakistan, no attention is given to students at large, resulting in high drop-outs and extreme acts like self-immolation.” She expressed concern over the increasing drop-out ratio and said mental difficulties often result in the loss of students. “It is high time the authorities paid attention to the learning difficulties faced by students and adopt techniques to address such matters,” she said.
