Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Principal Dentist Prof Dr Noor Mohammad Khoso has underlined that nearly 70 per cent of dental problems in kids are result of junk food and soft drinks.
Speaking to APP, he said that due to salty, saucy and greasy junk food and soft drinks tooth decay was on the rise among kids across the country especially in the posh localities.
He informed that the eating chapati was helpful in making the teeth strong among the kids but unfortunately, he said, use of chapati has been decreased among the kids. He said that beverages contain acid, phosphorous and sugar and when these three are combined, they become dangerous for the children’s teeth and the acid could melt parts of the teeth.
He further said that most of the parents who visited his were unaware of the importance of their babies’ teeth. He said toffees and chocolates could also damage the structure of the teeth. He said, some kids who visited his clinic had black stains on the outer part of their teeth and these black stains were harmful to the teeth of the children.
Dr Noor Mohammad further advised the children who brush and floss regularly, use fluoride mouthwash, limit snacks and sweet drinks and visit the dentist twice a year. He suggested that people take care of their mouth like any other part of the body because it’s linked to the rest of the body.
