Doctors observe two-hour token strike

Doctors associated with Civil Hospital, Karachi, Lyari General Hospital and Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre observed a two-hour token strike on Monday from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
In accordance to the decision made and unanimously approved by all members of Pakistan Medical Association’s Sindh chapter, doctors of the three major hospitals in city did not attend patients, others than emergency cases, during this period.
The two-hour token strike will continue till recovery of Surgeon Aftab Qureishi and Dr. Faisal Iftikhar besides adequate measures for the protection of medical community of the province against extortion, robberies and high handedness of criminal elements in general, said a PMA – Sindh office bearer on Monday.
He said the doctors wanted the government to take a “meaningful notice” and also the general public must realize the plight of doctors who find it extremely difficult to realize their professional obligations in the given circumstances.

Doctors demand early recovery of kidnapped neuro surgeon

The Secretary of Pakistan Medical Association Sindh (PMA) Dr. Hadi Bux Jatoi, Prof. Dr. Beekha Ram, Dr. M.H. Gulzar, Dr. Waseem Shaikh, Dr. Iqbal Haroon, Dr. Attaullah Memon, Dr. Mir Muhammad Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Shaikh Dr.Feroz Memon, Dr. Zaman Baloch, Dr.Nadeem Khan and a numbers senior professors and doctors have condemned the kidnapping of Dr. Aftab Qureshi a renowned neurosurgeon from Karachi. In a statement, issued here on Monday, they said that Dr. Qureshi is a senior doctor and one of the few neurosurgeons who are providing the best possible service to their patients in public and private hospitals. They said that these types of incident had created a great sense of insecurity and worry among the doctor community of the country. They said the growing cases of kidnapping for ransom shows that there is no law and order in the province and there is no safety and security for common man in general and doctors in particular. They urged the Sindh government to immediately recover the doctor. They demanded early and safe recovery of Dr. Aftab Qureshi and arrest of the criminals.
