The commuters are facing problems in federal capital due to absence of sheds on various bus stops particularly on Islamabad Highway.
Hundreds of commuters daily use local transport for traveling in the city, but wait on the roadsides facing harsh weather conditions. Saeed Ahmed, a commuter waiting at Zero Point bus stop said that he always wait on footpath or the roadside for transport due to absence of proper bus stop and sheds. He said in the summer season and after monsoon rains it becomes difficult for the commuters to wait in the scorching heat without sheds. The commuters demanded civic body to install sheds and erect proper bus stops.
A senior citizen Shakela Bibi pointed out that the pedestrian bridges erected over different roads are not for aged people and persons with disabilities.
Sharif-ud-Din, a 65 years old resident of G-9 said Zebra crossings at busy roads of the capital are not providing a safe passage to the pedestrians, as most of the drivers have no awareness about zebra crossing, so they do not bother to stop and let people cross safely.
When contacted, an official of Traffic Police said the department is creating awareness among the masses through launching various campaigns form time to time.
When contacted an official of CDA said the civic body is planning to construct overhead bridges and bus stops and other facilities which were either removed or damaged during the construction work on the highways.
