ASP-LUMS train govt organisations to meet international donor standards

The USAID-funded ASP-LUMS successfully held its training on ‘Monitoring and Evaluation for Operational Executives’ in Karachi.
The goal of the Assessment and Strengthening Programme (ASP) funded by USAID is to bring the integral management of Pakistani civil society organisations and the Pakistani government organisations to a higher level of management excellence, accountability and transparency. This would build the capacity of Pakistan’s implementing partners to meet the standards for compliance with the US government’s rules and regulations, and in doing so, build their capacity to meet any donor’s standards for future funding.
Specifically, the ASP is a part of three USAID strategic components: institutional capacity building; research and development and institutional development of awardees. The ASP-LUMS training three tiers of managers: senior, middle and operational in areas like monitoring and evaluation, financial management, procurement management and HR management and administration.
Operational executives from all over Sindh and other areas of Pakistan participated in the training.
The participants were welcomed with an introduction to ASP-LUMS by Research and Training Director Sajeel Butt. LUMS SDSB faculty taught the participants about developing performance indicators, data collection and causality establishment and reporting.
The participants termed the training very effective and felt motivated to improve the working of their organisations. They were awarded certificates in the end by ASP-LUMS Chief of Party Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi.
