The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 has conducted a three-day training workshop to impart training about Basic Life Support to the students of the King Edward Medical University. 250 students were trained on the initial assessment of the patient, rescue breathing, treatment of foreign body airway obstruction, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the management of spinal injury patients.
The training organised at the KEMU auditorium by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations was the sixth in the series of BLS courses for KEMU students.
The especially designed training course was conducted by the Community Training wing of the service and students were imparted hands-on training through practical exercises for the management of emergencies, along with theoretical lectures.
The medical students appreciated the expertise of the Rescue 1122 instructors, who used mannequins to demonstrate life-saving measures.
PES Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer appreciated the spirit of the medical students for taking on the initiative and organising a useful training session.
He expressed his satisfaction that the emergency training initiated by Rescue 1122, in the long neglected field of emergency management, has now reached international standards within a short span of time. He said the service is also training the members of other organisations such as the Social Security Hospital, College of Dentistry, the Motorway police, LUMS, Lahore University and the Girl Guide Association.
