A group of 11 students of Quaid-e-Azam University Saturday called for their reinstatement and staged a peaceful demonstration for solution of their genuine demands.
A QAU official says the students were expelled after they motivated other students to disrupt a three-day social sciences conference last month.
He told Online that the disciplinary body, comprising of teachers, of the varsity had taken the decision to expel the students for their misconduct. He said that the university’s administration has recently implemented the decision.
Expelled students have angrily reacted to the decision and asked the university administration to withdraw the decision.
A representative of the affected students told Online that all expelled students have had excellent academic career and they want to continue their studies in the institution. “It is the question of our future and we don’t want to loose our career, “he added.
While responding to a question he said that students expect a fair action from the Syndicate body. “But the student community would protest if the Syndicate continues their expulsion”.
A QUA official said the Quaidian Students Federation (QSF) has no legal status in the varsity and formation of any such political organization is not allowed by the federal government. He added that to highlight students’ issues the students can coordinate with university high ups after getting registration under existing societies of the students like Debating and Literary Society and some others.
He said that the Syndicate’s meeting was not notified on May 19 but the notification of the meeting is expected during next week and the issue would be debated thoroughly. He added that formation of the Syndicate existed on all impartial members including teachers and Higher Education Commission’s members.
The affected students said that the administration has also issued show cause notices to more students.
However, an official said that no show cause notices have been issued to more students.
