Zardari orders funds for water projects

On the request of the Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, President Asif Ali Zardari has issued necessary instructions for allocation of amount for K-IV project for supply of water to Karachi and for the sewerage project of S-III.
This was announced in a statement issued from the Governor House here on Friday.
It said that the President has also directed the officials concerned to include both these projects in the PSDP 2012-13.
The statement further pointed out that the Governor had requested the President that in view of the growing population of the metropolis as well as the increased industrial activities in the city both these projects are of quite significance.
He said that preparation are complete for the initiation of both the projects and with the availability of funds the work would commence. With the K-IV project, 640 MGD more water would be available to the metropolis in three phases by 2025.
The sewerage project of S-III would help improve the environment of the city and that the hazards to the marine life could also be removed.
Sewerage treatment plants would be installed at Korangi, Shah Faisal, Sohrab Goth and Mai Kolachi and the capacity of the existing three treatment plants would also be doubled.
The K-IV project would be in three phases and the estimated cost of the first phase is Rs. 29.70 billion. The estimated cost of the S-III project is Rs 17 billion, it was further stated.
