Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan on Friday said the donation of $1 million announced by President Asif Ali Zardari for Ajmer Sharif shrine from the national exchequer fell under the purview of corruption.
Nisar said at a time when the people of the country were running from pillar to post to earn two meals a day for their family and the rulers were compromising national sovereignty and honour for every dollar, the donation of such a huge amount during a private visit was nothing less than a crime. Nisar said during his point of order in the National Assembly that the government repeatedly assured that the visit of president was purely personal and private and that he would bear all expenses from his pocket.
He said it was yet to be verified whether Zardari and members of his delegation incurred expenses from their pocket or from the national exchequer.
He said the burden of the magnanimity of the president was being borne by the poor people of Pakistan and it would be better if the president spent from his personal accounts on such visits and donations.
