PPP govt committed for an enlightened Pakistan: PM

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani has said that the PPP Government is committed for an enlightened Pakistan with affordable education facilities for all segments of society. He said so while addressing the 3rd convocation of Virtual University here on Saturday.
The Prime Minister said the government is endeavoring to spread information and communication technology services across the country with special focus on backward areas. “We have established more than one thousand educational and community broadband centers in the remotest areas which are imparting I.T skills as well as digital literacy training,” he said.
Emphasizing the need for the promotion of scientific and technical education to meet the modern day requirements‚ he said I.T centers are being opened in each union council of the country which will also provide employment to thirty thousand youth.
Prime Minister Gilani vowed to increase the share of GDP for education to ensure quality education for all in line with the Millenium Development Goals. He said that the PPP led government is taking various measures to improve the human resources development.
The PM said that there is need to pay more attention for the promotion of research and technology in the education sector. He also directed the concerned ministry to speed up its process for acquiring 3-G license for the country. He said that after acquiring this license‚ lots of new employment opportunities will be created in the I.T sector, adding that thirty I.T. campuses will be setup in the Fata‚ Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
The Prime Minister also informed that the Finance Ministry has been directed to create one hundred thousand new jobs for youth during this year.
On the occasion‚ the Prime Minister announced a grant of 17 billion rupees for the development of broadband network in the country. He said the grant of 17 billion for broadband development‚ is in addition to twenty two billion rupees already announced for this purpose.
He said some elements are trying to remove him from his post in an undemocratic and unconstitutional manner and do not want the current government to continue to work for the progress of country‚ however they will not succeed in their efforts. He said that he can only be removed from the procedure given in the constitution.
He said that PPP has come into power through the power of people vote‚ rather than any backdoor channel. He said that he will remain prime minister till public supports him.
