The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday summoned former senator Ammar Ahmed Khan, the son of business tycoon Gulzar Ahmed Khan, who is a close friend of the current and former presidents of Pakistan, and former Punjab Police chief Azhar Nadeem in the Qasr-e-Zauq property case and recorded their statements. Both the accused had allegedly cheated the public by grabbing the properties of poor people worth Rs 480 million in the Qasr-e-Zauq scam. Their statements would now be scrutinised, and if needed, the accused will be called again for cross-examination. A NAB spokesman said that during the investigations in the Pakistan Railways (PR) case, NAB investigators on a tip-off identified a rail track being sold out in Misri Shah Iron Market, Lahore. After confirmation, NAB informed the Railways Police inspector general (IG) about the matter, and raided five warehouses in the area. Over 200 metric tonnes of rail track was recovered, while the Railways’ authorities were found to be totally unaware of the fraud until informed by NAB. The PR police registered cases against the accused on NAB’s instructions, and arrested five of them.
