NAB recovers 200 tonnes of stolen rail tracks

NAB teams raided and recovered 200 tonnes of railway tracks from warehouses in the Misri Shah Iron Market. According to details, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation teams were tipped off about Pakistan Railways’ tracks being sold at the Misri Shah Iron Market. After confirmation, the NAB informed the Railway Police IG about the matter and raided five warehouses. During the raid 200 tonnes of rail tracks were recovered. The railway authorities were totally unaware of the sale until informed by the NAB.
The Pakistan Railways police registered FIRs against the accused people on the NAB’s instructions after arresting five of them. The Track Supply officer lodged the complaints with the Railways police for misappropriation of railways material. It was revealed by the arrested people, that every week about 500 tonnes of metal stolen form the railways reaches various warehouses across Pakistan. The persons who selling the material were identified as Sukkur Division Police Wireless Operator Yousaf, Ismail, Yaseen, Gul Hassan and Ali Ahmad. Bao Sajjad and Rizwan were the main buyers of the materials. An accused Mian Qasim admitted to purchasing 174.2 tonnes of railways’ material valued at Rs 8,706,101 from Yousaf from January 2012 till date.
