The Higher Education Commission (HEC) awards self access centers (SAC) to Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University (SBKWU) Quetta and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro.
In this regard, the HEC has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of self access center (SAC) under the English Language Teaching Reforms Project (ELTR) Phase-II with SBKWU, Quetta and MUET, and Jamshoro, says a press release issued here.
At SBKWU Madam Ghazala Gola, provincial minister for women development graced the ceremony as chief guest. Noor Amna Malik represented HEC and as the guest of honor. Prof Dr Sultana Baloch Vice Chancellor, SBKWU, and Ms Noor Amna Malik (DG, LI, HEC) signed the MoU on behalf of respective parties. The MoU with MUET was signed at the HEC Regional Center, Karachi. Noor Amna Malik along with ELTR team was connected via video conferencing with RC Karachi for this eminent occasion. The MUET vice chancellor and Director Regional Center Nazeer Hussain signed MoU on behalf of respective parties.
The established self-access centers will facilitate the faculty of SBKWU and MUET and will serve as a hub for the English faculty belonging to both the provinces. The center will facilitate teacher training, especially in the Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Internet Mediated Language Learning (IML). It will also enable the teachers to use latest tools of computer and internet in language classrooms and help the teachers and researchers to update their knowledge about the latest trends in language learning and teaching.
Speaking on the occasion, Noor Amna Malik said that incorporating technology in the regular learning process is imperative and these centers will accelerate teaching as well as learning process. She added that the HEC was giving special attention to improve the level of English language teaching in our universities and for this purpose special courses have been designed for the training of English teachers.
