EPD issues notices to 110 industrial units

Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab on Friday issued notices to 110 industrial units causing pollution.
As per information, EPD constituted six squads last week in view of the increasing cases of environmental pollution causing health hazards.
An EPD official said industries were issued an environmental approval with certain conditions to ensure there were no negative impacts on the environment and that the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) were followed strictly.
“Based on the nature of impact that the industries have on the environment, the cell will decide legal action under section 16 of Punjab Environmental Protection (Amendment) Act, 2012.” told the sources.
The squads would inspect in total eighteen categories of industries, including those manufacturing batteries, chemicals, chip boards, cold storage, electric transformers, foundry products, G.I pipes, fertilizers, iron and steel re-rolling mills, marble industries, paints, paper and paper board, pesticides and insecticides, poultry feed, solvent oil extraction tannery, textile processing and vegetable ghee and cooking oil, the sources added.
EPD campaign against medical labs, clinics: Environment Protection Department (EPD) of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) on Friday sent two more cases to its legal branch for further action against clinics for not following the Hospital Wastage Management Rules (HWMR).
According to EPD sources, during monitoring it was found that Sofia clinic and maternity home and a dental surgery clinic in Iqbal Town had no proper system for hospital wastage.
