Trials for World Junior Golf

The World Junior Open Golf Championship 2012 will be contested at the Fair Heaven Golf Club, Lancashire, England from July 16 to 18. At this world event Pakistan has been allotted one slot and will be represented by one junior. And to select the final nominee, Pakistan Golf Federation is conducting three days trials from May 18 to 20, 18 holes each day and a total of 54 holes, at the Defence Raya Golf Club in Lahore.
A total of nine juniors are taking part in the final trials and include Farid Rizwan Mir (Gujranwala Golf club), Rao Muhammed Hassan, M.Minhaj Maqsood Warriach, Asad Attique (all from Rawalpindi Golf Club), Hamza Khan, Fawaz Trimzi (Islamabad Golf Club), Mustafa Ghani (DHA Golf Club, Karachi), Sain Shazli and Rao Abdur Rehman Badr (Karachi Golf Club). The age criteria for selection laid down by the international golf body is that the junior should not be above the age of 16 as on January 1, 2012 and below the age of 12 as on July 16, 2012.
The youngsters taking part in the trials are all junior golfers of ability who have been identified as the talented ones and participation in these trials is going to give them a strong competitive experience. Playing at Defence Raya Golf Course will also be a learning experience as it is a course that matches the best in Asia.Farid Rizwan is capable of playing sensational golf and players like Mustafa Ghani, Asad Attique and Rao Abdur Rehman will also make their presence felt, alongwith other contenders.The tee off is scheduled for 2.30 pm on Friday at the Defence Raya Golf Club. Taimur Hassan, Honorary Secretary, Pakistan Golf Federation wll supervise the trials alongwith Mehmood Aziz(PGF)and Brig(r) Akram of Punjab Golf Association. Taimur Hassan said that “PGF has a strong commitment to development of junior players and pursues this aspect of golf with passion”. The selection committee comprises of Aslam R.Khan, Asad I.A. Khan, Mehmood Aziz, Brig (r) M. Akram, Taimur Hassan.
