Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Media Sharmila Faruqi, has said that media and culture go together and a balance should be maintained between them. She said this while speaking as chief guest here at a seminar on ‘Media Portrayal of Pakistani Culture’ at Sindh Madressatul Islam (SMI) University on Thursday. She said that the trend of sensationalism must be discouraged. Sharmila appreciated the role of regional electronic channels which were very beautifully depicting their relevant culture and she stressed upon promoting community radio. She added that media is shaping the society and it has a power to influence traditions and values and as such great responsibility lies on media. Sharmila said that negativism should be avoided and that the positive aspects to be highlighted. It was the prime responsibility of media to follow the code of conduct, she added. Advisor to Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of radio journalism. Dr. Fauzia Khan, Dean Faculty of Media ZABIST, DR. Rafia Taj Director Institute of Mass Communication Karachi University and Dr.Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University also addressed the ceremony.
