Former Law Minister Babar Awan was formally charge-sheeted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan here Thursday in contempt case.
The disregarded PPP leader, however, denied authenticity of his crime when a three-member judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Athar Saeed, heard the case.
Senator Dr. Babar Awan had uttered derogatory remarks against judges after the SC ordered an investigation by Tariq Khosa into the memo scandal.
On April 10, Awan had tendered an apology to the court, especially to Justice Asif Saeed Khosa against whom he had launched a tirade by openly attacking him for being brother of Tariq Saeed Khosa.
Awan had filed an intra-court appeal against his indictment, seeking unconditional pardon.
During today’s hearing, Awan said his press conference was political in nature and that it was not meant to criticize the judiciary but the PML-N.

  1. Shouldn't there be a law, that anyone purposefully, for political gain, use the official recourses (as in this case Babar Awan used the PIC) to criticise anyone? Babar Awan admitted “his press conference was political in nature and that it was not meant to criticize the judiciary but the PML-N", so there is no law to restrict anyone for issuing derogatory remarks against anyone.
