A man was killed and four others injured when some unidentified culprits hurled a hand grenade at a teashop in Quaidabad on Wednesday.
The blast wreaked havoc in the area, as shops and markets were hurriedly closed following the blast. The victim’s body and the injured men were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
The Bomb Disposal Squad arrived on the scene and collected evidences from the spot. Later, the squad cleared the area after completing their investigation.
Gadap Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Jan Muhammad Burhamani said that a worker of the teashop that was attacked was killed in the incident.
The victim was identified as Majid, 26, son of Irfan, and four others, including the teashop owner, were also injured. The SP said that the teashop was located under the Quaidabad flyover and the attackers had thrown the hand grenade from the flyover.
“We suspect that this is an incident of personal enmity, as there is no problem of extortion in the area. Police will be able to say something after they record statements of the survivors,” he added. The Awami National Party (ANP) said that Majid was their worker. In a statement, ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed condemned the killing and demanded the government to bring to book the culprits responsible for the incident.
