Women MPs to participate in trilateral programme

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK Branch in collaboration with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus is hosting a trilateral programme for Women Parliamentarians from Afghanistan, Pakistan and the UK from 14-May 18. Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan, Dr Fehmida Mirza has nominated a delegation of five women parliamentarians from the National Assembly and Senate to represent Pakistan in this trilateral programme.
The delegation is headed by Dr Nafisa Shah, Secretary Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and includes members from major political parties including Dr Donya Aziz (PML-Q), Asiya Nasir (JUI-F), Sabeen Rizvi (PML-N) from the National Assembly and Rubina Rauf Khalid has been nominated from the Senate. The programme has been designed to enhance the empowerment of women parliamentarians within the political and developmental processes by participating in a series of exchanges, workshops, briefings and visits. The meetings will focus on areas of Parliament and Politics, governance and justice, gender and development, forced marriage and violence against women.
This exchange programme is part of the initiative taken by the Speaker, Dr Fehmida Mirza for enhancing the role of women parliamentarians in regional peace and security process and collaborating efforts for addressing the common issues of women in the region.
Intl Museum Day on 18th: The International Museum Day will be celebrated across the world on May 18 including Pakistan with the aim of increasing public awareness on the role of museums in a developing society.
This year, 35th anniversary of International Museum Day will be marked with the theme of “Museums in a Changing World; New Challenges, New inspirations”. “Museums have a great role and importance in the life of people. There are many types of museums; some depict the indigenous culture and traditions inherited by people from their forefathers from generation to generation, others present archaeological sites, past history, natural history and scientific inventions,” said Khalid Javaid, a person behind craft and museum development in Pakistan.
Museums not only acquaint people about their culture, history and other related aspects but also provide them education in an informal and interactive way. They also serve to give fun to the masses, in particular children, he maintained.
Being Executive Director of Lok Virsa, Khalid Javaid said that the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, a specialized cultural organization has taken the lead in creating a number of important cultural facilities at the federal capital including two museums.
