The Taliban have released the video of Bannu jail attack in which Hakimullah Mehsud, chief of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is seen briefing his fighters.
The tape also contains messages of Adnan Rasheed, who was allegedly involved in plotting the attack on former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf. The 34-minute footage is being sold openly in various areas of North Waziristan and South Waziristan.
The video shows some 150 fighters, including Hakimullah Mehsud and Wali-ur-Rehman, gathered at one place and forming a strategy to launch assault. Later they attacked the jail with heavy weaponry without facing any hurdle from police. Other scenes after the attack are also present in the tape, showing top militants who managed to escape from the jail. Further scenes show the cheerful moments when top Taliban leaders are congratulating Adnan Rasheed for successfully escaping, and the fighters on completing a successful mission. All the top militants demanded the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is imprisoned in the United States. Taliban sources said the attack lasted for one-and-a-half hour to two hours, and the militants managed to release 384 prisoners in a pre-dawn assault. Adnan Rasheed said in the video that he was certain that his friends would release him from imprisonment one day. No response has so far been received from police authorities and the provincial government. On April 15, More than 150 heavily-armed Taliban militants boarding several vehicles attacked the Central Jail in Bannu, the southern district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, releasing 384 prisoners in a pre-dawn assault. The TTP had claimed responsibility for raiding the jail.
