Pakistan chief coach Dav Whatmore said on Wednesday that Pakistan team is capable of beating Sri Lanka despite hosts home ground and crowd advantages.
“Definitely the hosts will be having their own advantages (home ground and crowd) but my team is fully prepared to take on Lankan challenge in a decent way by exhibiting professionalism,” he told reporters after Pak team training session for the build up of the team for its tour later this month.
“Lankan are always tough to beat in their own backyard and their (Lankan) weather will be also tough but we are also training in hot conditions and there should not be any problem to adjust with the conditions there.
He said he hopes that Lankan wickets for one day will be supporting both for the batsmen and bowlers. “We have good number of experienced players in our side and I look forward to exciting cricket in the Lankan tour,” he said.
He said, he backs Pakistan cricket Board’s decision to announce different teams for different formats of the game and is fully satisfied with the combinations named for different formats.
“It is a good step to name teams for different formats keeping in view the strengthen of our own players and the might of the opponents,” he said adding “Only specialised players will be taking part in a format for which they are suitable.”
He said it is the job of Pakistan Cricket Board to appoint the captain and he would extend full support to the national captains .
“As a coach it would be my utmost effort to work for the improvement of the team and to play my due role in benefiting the respective captains no matter which format of the game we are playing,” he asserted.
