The Lahore High Court was moved on Tuesday to restrict Prime Minister Gilani from approving the upcoming budget.
LHC Justice Umar Ata Bandial conducted the hearing of the petition on Tuesday.
The petitioner’s counsel, AK Dogar, took the stance before the court that PM Gilani could not approve the budget after his conviction by the apex court on April 26, in the contempt of court case.
He also stated that under the constitution, a convicted member of the parliament could not approve the budget of the county and that this situation could create a new constitutional crisis.
Justice Umar Ata said due to the sensitivity of the matter, the bench will request the Lahore Chief Justice to form a larger bench to hear the petition. The court also directed to combine all the writ petitions filed in the LHC against the prime minister.
