The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised farmers to use new bags for storing wheat, saying that old bags should be used only after spraying them with the recommended medicines to prevent losses.
An Agriculture department spokesman said on Monday that warehouses should be cleaned and repaired properly before storing wheat so that the larvae of insects may not harm the commodity.
He also advised farmers to carry out the recommended spray or fumigation in the warehouses.
He added that Aluminum Phosphide tablets should be used to kill mice and other insects and that the warehouses should be kept air tight.
