Anti-corruption court sends two cops behind bars

The anti-corruption court on Monday cancelled the interim bails of suspended City DSP Malik Taimur Khan and in charge of Ratta Amral police station, Jawad Ahmed, for not registering a gang-rape case.
On completion of the defence counsels’ arguments, the special court cancelled the interim bails and ordered the police to handcuff the accused and take them to jail.
Parents of a 12-year old girl, who was made victim of gang-rape lastweek by some people, had filed an application with the police station concerned for registering an FIR, but the police took no action.
The parents of the girl approached the court for remedy on which the Punjab government transferred Superintendent of Police Malik Matloob and immediately suspended the DSP and in charge, Ratta Amral police station, besides ordering an inquiry.
The inquiry team found the police officials guilty and declared that they had shown negligence in performing their duties. A case was registered against the accused and since then they had been on interim bail.
